Help Desk

This page is a collection of software that the Help Desk frequently uses to resolve common problems. This page will stand as a sort of 'virtual tool shed' for said software.

 

Cisco Network Admission Control (NAC) Agent

The Cisco NAC Agent must be installed on every student operated Windows machine, along with an antivirus program of some kind, before said computer can gain access to the network. It is used to authenticate your identity, and to protect the network - The logon information is your standard CONNCOLL username and password.

Virtual Private Network (VPN) Access

With the upgrade of the Cisco client, the way to access the college's VPN has also changed. The college's VPN can be accessed through the web at the link below:

There, it will ask you to login—the logon information is your standard CONNCOLL username and password - and the webpage will also automatically download and install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client. Direct links to the clients are provided below.

Antivirus (AV), Spyware/Malware Tools

There is a wide variety of anti-virus/-spyware/-malware tools available online. Below is a list of a few, along with links to download them.

  • Perhaps the best option for AV is Microsoft's own Microsoft Security Essentials, which is a free and effective tool for any genuniely licensed Windows installation.
  • We also offer Symantec Endpoint Protection for faculty and staff. It comes in a 32-bit and 64-bit version. To check which version of Vista a computer is running, right-click on My Computer and hit Properties. If you are running Windows XP, we suggest using the 32 bit version. ONLY Faculty and Staff can be given Symantec.
  • Anti-virus software is not required for Mac computers, but if you would like to have one, we recommend one of the following:
  • MalwareBytes Anti-Malware is also effective and quick, and often catches threats that other applications miss. Version 1.60.1 is available directly from this server.
  • Spybot Search and Destroy is another good anti-spyware & anti-malware tool that has active monitoring in the form of its Tea Timer.
